Week 19: Ordinary Time

LISTEN to “Ordinary Time” by DS Butterworth

As families we don’t have to create or find extraordinary moments to experience transcendence. The author of this week’s story reminds us that transcendence can be found at the kitchen table “between reaching for the salt and the passing of the bread.”

After you listen, some questions for reflection…

  1. Is there an ordinary activity in your family’s life where the transcendent sometimes shines through?
  2. Has there ever been a time when you trusted or had faith that your children will carry on without and despite you?

This week’s story reminds me of the poem “Perhaps the World Ends Here” by Joy Harjo, about the world of our lives and our families beginning and ending (and unfolding) at the kitchen table. It’s one of my favorites. Check it out!

With you on the adventure,

Rev. Beth
