GIVE

With love and compassion, your support allows us to transform lives, nurture spiritual growth, and make UU values real both within our congregation and in the wider community.
Your generosity sustains worship and music, religious education for all ages, and the caring connections that bind us together as a faith community. It also empowers us to live our covenant of “service as its prayer” by funding social justice, reproductive dignity,  LGBTQ rights, racial equity, and other efforts for meaningful change.
Thank you for your gifts that strengthen and grow our church, deepen our spiritual life, and extend our values beyond our walls!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where does the money for the budget come from?

You. The church budget is funded entirely from the generous donations of our congregants. You do not need to be a voting member to give or to make a pledge. You can pledge at any time during the year. Pledge now.

When is the budget approved?

At the annual December Parish Meeting, usually the 2nd or 3rd Sunday in December, the next year’s budget is presented, voted on and approved. Everyone is encouraged to attend the December Parish Meeting but only Voting Members can vote. (Learn more about membership here. Membership is rewarding.)

Where and when can I learn more about the budget?

Please get involved in the budgeting process! We offer a Budget Forum each year before the December Parish Meeting where anyone can ask questions about the budget. The Budget Forum is offered in person and online, please watch the DU Weekly Newsletter for dates, times and the online link.

Are financial safeguards in place?

Most definitely. Your elected Board Treasurer receives a monthly financial statement package to review. Additionally, following good governance guidelines, we employ outside auditors to ensure fiscal responsibility and that your pledges are well used.

What is the most helpful way to give to First Unitarian?

A formal pledge allows us to build a budget based upon your gifts. With a current pledge fulfillment rate of over 98%, your pledge provides a realistic foundation for each year’s budget. Pledges can be fulfilled in a one-time lump sum or spread out over the year, whatever works best for you. If you are over 65, there may be tax advantages to your giving, please contact Martha Norton or Kay Ashley for more information.

How is the budget used?

Church is a community in relationship. Your gifts support the staff, the physical building and infrastructure required to present and transmit the Sunday services as well as weekday programming.

Does First Unitarian prepare for the unexpected?

We see wisdom in maintaining some reserves for the unknown. In accordance with the direction from the Board of Trustees, we set aside funds to cover three months of operating expenses, along with a reserve account to fund repairs and maintenance as needed.

How do I get more information?

We are happy to chat with you. Please contact Martha Norton or Kay Ashley to talk all things Finance – click here for the Contact Form.
