UU Learning Community series on Forgiveness starting May 31
NOTE: NO UULC SESSION ON SUNDAY, MAY 24, MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
On May 31, we will begin a 4-week series at UU Learning Community, based on the book, The Sunflower: on the Possibilities and Limits of Forgiveness by Simon Wiesenthal. This will be facilitated by Cynthia Rutherford.
It is recommended that participants read the first section of The Sunflower ahead of time, if possible.
The format of these sessions will include group and break-out discussions of the book and other pertinent material, together with relevant short videos addressing the more general issues.
May 31 – The Question: What Would You have Done? introduces Wiesenthal’s dilemma and the moral shock of the Holocaust setting
June 7 – Religious and Philosophical views of Forgiveness looks at the different answers different traditions have for the forgiveness question
June 14 – Trauma, Psychology and Restorative Justice explores what psychology and modern conflict resolution can teach us about forgiveness
June 21 – Memory, Reconciliation and Living Forward studies how societies should remember wrongdoing while still moving forward
