Celebrating Genie Fritz’s 100th Birthday

Last weekend, we had the honor of hosting a 100th birthday celebration for Genie Fritz, who has been a member of First Unitarian Church of Dallas for 77 years.

Genie Fritz is not only a cherished member of our community, she is also known as one of Dallas’ first social justice warriors. As an activist for low-income housing, she founded the Greater Dallas Housing Opportunity. She was also a force for women’s right to have credit and integral to the formation of Women’s Southwest Federal Credit Union. Her impact in the League of Women’s Voters has made her a legend locally, in the state, and nationwide.

She was also instrumental in her husband Ned Fritz’s important work as an environmental activist – typing every single book, article, position paper, and letter of Ned’s and co-founding two crucial eco-groups: Texas Conservation Alliance and Texas Land Conservancy.

Genie Fritz will attend the 11 am service this Sunday, offering us all a chance to celebrate her birthday, her membership at First Church, and her incredible legacy!
