An Update from Children’s Ministries
As we begin a new church year, we are adopting new language to describe what we do in Children’s Ministries.
The community we create together on Sundays is not simply a continuation of the school environment our children experience during the week. We are drawing the circle wide and expanding the circle of our young people’s awareness, so instead of calling what we do “Sunday School” we are shifting to “Children’s Circles.”
The dedicated adults who spend Sundays with children in our church are teaching, but they are also learning and growing and having fun alongside the children, so instead of calling them “Teachers” we are shifting to “Guides.”
Archbishop Desmond Tutu said, “Language is very powerful. Language does not just describe reality. Language creates the reality it describes.” This new way of talking about Children’s Ministries is a better reflection of the spirit of our church’s ministry with children, and it will inevitably shape the experience our children and their adult Guides have together on Sundays.
Have you registered your children for their Sunday Circles yet?
Registration is required every year, even if your children were enrolled last year.
The new church year begins in September, so please register your children now, from Nursery through YRUU, to make sure they’re ready for the new year.
