Board of Trustees
The job of each member of the Board of Trustees is:
- To serve as a holder of the church vision;
- To work with the CEO/Senior Minister to execute that vision;
- To communicate with the congregation;
- To work together to carry out specific projects such as updating the church bylaws, learning how to utilize the new church building, and transitioning to in-person worship
Board members serve a 3-year term (except for executive positions). They are voting members of the church willing to serve as leaders who are familiar with church history, values, and impact in the world. Board members are generous with their commitment to make the church the best it can be, and they each commit time and resources to making the church’s vision come to life.
Ideally, board members are good communicators (both verbal and written), strategic thinkers, and leaders who understand organizational dynamics and can lead with their integrity as well as their passion for the church. The Board of Trustees meets eight times yearly. Members are expected to spend about 4 to 8 hours monthly for meetings and committee work.
Endowment & Memorial Gift Fund Committee
Endowment & Memorial Gift Fund Committee (EMGF) members serve a 3-year term. They can expect to spend about 2 hours monthly on committee work. The committee must report to the Board and the Congregation.
Committee members oversee the gift acceptance policy for general endowment and gift funds, distributions from these funds in line with bylaws and the gift funds documents, and manage the investment adviser. The committee is responsible for maintaining EMGF Committee records and documents.
Members of this committee must show discretion in all committee activities. Understanding investment terminology and management are also important skills for committee members in order to manage and protect the assets of the Fund.
The three members of the EMGF Committee must be at least 21 years old and voting members of the church. Committee members cannot also be members of the Board of Trustees or church staff.
Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee has five members, each of whom is a voting member of the church. Members serve a 1- or 2-year term and must commit 2-4 hours per week from July to December to:
- Identify open positions in the Board of Trustees, the Endowment and Memorial Gift Fund and the Nominating Committee
- Identify and provide application forms to potential members of the Board and Committees
- Review nominations for open positions
- Interview potential nominees
- Submit a slate of nominees to the Board of Trustees for vote at the Parish Meeting in December
- Count the ballots and certify the results
Members of the Nominating Committee must be able to interview people with discernment and discretion.
