KERA Story about Interfaith Statement opposing DART withdrawals from Park Cities
On May 2, Highland Park and University Park voters will decide whether to remain members of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). If either city withdraws, the area would lose Route 237 bus service as well as paratransit and GoLink options, significantly reducing access to public transportation in the Park Cities.
This week, First Church ministers joined colleagues at Christ Lutheran Church, St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, and University Park United Methodist Church to voice concern about the impact these changes could have on people with disabilities, working families, essential employees, and members of our own congregation. Many of our members rely on DART to participate fully in worship and church life.
This is a matter of access, equity, and the ability of all people to gather in community.
We encourage congregants to stay informed and to attend the DART community meeting this Thursday, March 5 at 6 p.m. at the University Park Library to learn more about the potential service changes and their impact.
