Week 24: The Rabbi’s Garage
The title of this essay caught my attention. The Rabbi’s Garage? What happens there? What happens is a ritual that helps Becky Wharton move from loss of life to embracing life.
After you listen, some questions for reflection…
- This is another essay in which the author deals with death and loss – Wharton gives birth to a severely disabled child who dies at less than two months of age. Again the question: Why do you think this essay is found in a section called “Embracing Life”?
- How do you think the horrible experience of loss she went through shaped how she is as a parent to her daughter Maya?
- How have the losses you’ve experienced, whether of a child or other losses, helped you to embrace life? What has been your version of the prayer meetings in the rabbi’s garage, that has helped you navigate the loss and get to the point of embracing life?
With you on the adventure,
Rev. Beth
