Week 10: The Driving Lesson
This week’s story begins the section of Chaos, Wonder, and the Spiritual Adventure of Parenting called “Struggles With Love.” Through stories of all kinds we will ask ourselves: what can our struggles with love and acceptance teach us about ourselves and the world?
After you listen, some questions for reflection…
- Have you struggled to be more accepting of your child(ren) or other members of your family? In what ways, and what strategies have you tried that have worked, and what have you done that didn’t get you anywhere? Have you become more accepting of yourself in the process?
- When have you had a hard time letting your child learn something for themselves? At what point do you step in – not to rescue them but to keep them safe?
- The rite of passage of learning to drive is one way that children assert themselves and their independence, but there are so many others throughout childhood. What are the ways your children assert themselves and try to be themselves? How do you respond when this happens?
With you on the adventure,
Rev. Beth
