Lammas/Lughnasadh Potluck & Ritual hosted by Earth Centered Spirituality – July 26th
Friday, July 26th
5:30 – 7:30pm, Foyer and Channing Social Hall
Earth Centered Spirituality is an intergenerational group at First Church that offers a place for seekers of all backgrounds to come together to honor the interconnectedness of all living beings and the sacredness of the natural world.
Lammas and Lughnasadh are two names for the same holiday – Lughnasadh is the old Irish name for the festival and Lammas (Loaf Mass) is the Christianized version. Lughnasadh is named after the Celtic god Lugh, who was associated with the sun and the harvest. In addition to being a harvest festival, Lughnasadh is also a time for games and competitions.
Here’s what to expect from this gathering:
Our potluck will take place inside in the Foyer. When planning your dishes – think grains, wheat, corn, and fresh berries!
The ritual portion will take place in Channing Social Hall.
🍚 Food Drive for Mission Oak Cliff – Lughnasadh is a time of gratitude – giving goes hand-in-hand with gratitude. We will be collecting donations of peanut butter, tuna fish, and rice for Mission Oak Cliff, a food pantry that is in serious need right now.
🌽 Make corn dollies – A Lughnasadh tradition! We will have this craft available for all ages as folks are arriving.
🥖 Bread Ritual – We will bless bread, a symbol of the first harvest and a time for gratitude – remembering that the wheat has died to nourish our bodies.
Two options for last 15 minutes of the gathering:
🌳 Oak Tree meditation – We will use the visual of the oak tree to find grounding and centeredness.
⭐️ Sack Race – It is tradition to engage in games and races on Lughnasadh. The burlap bags also serve as a reminder of the first harvest.
This monthly event is open to individuals of all backgrounds and beliefs who wish to come together in reverence for nature and community. All ages welcome and wanted – bring the whole family!
Please join the group in Realm to RSVP and sign up for potluck items if you can.
