Join First Unitarian’s Community Service group for Feed the City – Lakewood, hosted by Tango Charities!
We’re returning to Lakewood again this month, and this location really feels like home base for our group—many First Unitarian members live nearby, and it’s always a friendly, welcoming place to gather. We had a nice turnout last month, and we’d love to see even more of you join in this time! The White Rock Alehouse is a smaller, cozy venue that makes it easy to talk and connect while preparing sandwiches and snack bags for those in need.
This is a great event for kids, seniors, and anyone in between—a simple, meaningful way to serve our community while connecting with others. Each volunteer, if able, brings supplies that help feed around 30 food-insecure individuals, but please come with whatever supplies you can—every bit helps. If your budget is tight, you’re still warmly welcome to join and help assemble meals. Bringing extra bread is another great option—it’s inexpensive and often the item that runs out first!
T-shirts:
We’re running low on “Service Is Our Prayer” Community Service t-shirts and may not have enough for everyone this month. If you already have one, please wear it—or wear any First Unitarian t-shirt if you have one. If not, please come anyway—your presence matters far more than the shirt! If you’d like one, please list your t-shirt size in the comments on Realm, and we’ll do our best to dig one up if we can. The good news is—we still have plenty of kids’ t-shirts!
Kid-friendly & flexible:
Kids can help make sandwiches or be “runners” who deliver supplies to tables—whatever they prefer. It’s also a wonderful event for adults and seniors looking for an easy, meaningful way to help. Each volunteer, if able, brings supplies that will feed around 30 food-insecure individuals, so every contribution makes a big impact. Please come with whatever supplies you can—every bit helps!
What to bring (enough for ~30 meals per volunteer, if able):
- 2 loaves sliced sandwich bread
- 1–2 pkgs deli-style turkey, chicken, or ham (pre-packaged)
- 1 pkg sliced cheese
- Small bottle yellow mustard
- Sandwich bags (zip preferred)
- 1 bag chips (bulk) & 1 bag tangerines (e.g., Cuties)
Logistics:
Parking is easy and convenient in the lot next to the Alehouse. The location is right near White Rock Lake—close to the church and perfect for a relaxed morning of service and connection.
Please RSVP on the event listing in the Community Service group on Realm so we can plan for seating and supplies.
We hope you’ll join us for this cozy, welcoming morning of service that truly embodies our First Unitarian spirit of “Service Is Our Prayer.”
