SUMMARY:Reclaiming Religious Language: Sacrament | Rev. Beth Dana
DESCRIPTION:“Sacrament” is not a common word in Unitarian Universalist discourse\, but we say it every Sunday in our Affirmation. Let’s explore what we really mean when we say “the quest of truth” is our sacrament. \nRev. Beth Dana is preaching. Music provided by Kindred Voices.\nWorship at 9:30am and 11am CST in-person or online • 7:00pm ONLINE ONLY \nReclaiming Religious Language Series\nIn this series\, we explore the religious words that shaped traditions before us and ask: What still speaks? What needs healing? What can we reclaim? \nTogether\, we will return again to the language of faith and engage with it honestly. We will reimagine what these words can mean for us now.

SUMMARY:Why Are You You? Film Screening & Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, February 28 | 6:00 pm\nFirst Unitarian Church of Dallas\nREGISTER IN REALM\n\n \n\nJoin First Unitarian Church of Dallas for a screening and discussion of Why Are You You?\, a feature documentary exploring the history and lasting impact of the Young Religious Unitarian Universalists (YRUU).\n\n \n\nWhy Are You You? traces the story of YRUU\, a UU youth movement founded in 1983 where adolescents were encouraged to discover their authentic selves\, build beloved community\, and work for justice in the world. In this film\, former participants reflect forty years later on how their YRUU experiences shaped who they became and how they still show up in the world today.\n\n \n\nThis special screening is timed to honor a meaningful piece of local UU history: for many years\, First Unitarian Church of Dallas hosted a district-wide youth conference\, or “youth rally\,” that brought YRUU youth together from across the region. We invite current congregants\, friends\, and especially those who grew up in YRUU (or its predecessor LRY) to join us for this special night.\n\n \n\nMike Alves\, who grew up in YRUU here in Texas and whose daughter Phoebe also graduated from YRUU\, is curating a collection of YRUU photos and mementos to share at the event and is welcoming submissions from the wider community. If you have photos\, memorabilia\, or stories you’d like to contribute\, please send them to yruudoc@gmail.com.\n\n \n\nWhether you’re reconnecting with a formative chapter of your life or discovering this history for the first time\, we hope you’ll join us for this meaningful screening and conversation.

DESCRIPTION:❄️ First Unitarian Church of Dallas will be closed on Saturday and Sunday. \nWith extended icing and extremely low temperatures expected\, our campus will be closed this weekend (Saturday\, January 24 and Sunday\, January 25). \nWorship will be livestreamed at dallasuu.org/live at 9:30 am\, 11 am\, and 7 pm CT on Sunday. All on-campus classes\, workshops\, and meetings are cancelled. \nPlease take extra care of yourself\, check in on neighbors and loved ones\, and stay off the roads if possible. We appreciate your understanding and will provide updates when conditions improve. Church members are encouraged to check Realm for updates from staff and group leaders regarding the rescheduling of individual events. \nWishing everyone warmth and safety. \n_________________ \nWho we are is shaped by each other\, even as we long to be our own person. We’ll explore the UU value of interdependence and how we balance being ourselves with belonging to each other. \nRev. Dr. Daniel Kanter is preaching. \nWorship at 9:30 am\, 11 am\, and 7:00pm ONLINE ONLY \nReturn to Who You Are Series\nAt the turning of the year\, we pause to rediscover what matters most to us beneath the noise of daily life. Rooted in the Unitarian Universalist shared values\, this series invites us into a spiritual homecoming in which we will reflect on the values that shape us. \nThrough ritual\, reflection\, and community\, we will release what no longer serves us\, opening space for transformation. We will honor our pluralism\, embrace our call to justice and equity\, recognize our deep interdependence\, and embody generosity as a way of being. At the center of it all\, we return to love as a daily practice that grounds and sustains us.

SUMMARY:Blues Christmas | Breaking Open | Rev. T. J. FitzGerald
DESCRIPTION:Our annual time to acknowledge the ways this time of year can try our spirits. The blues is a balm for your soul. \nRev. T. J. FitzGerald is preaching. Featuring special Blues Music.\nWorship at 9:30am and 11am CST in-person or online • 7:00pm ONLINE ONLY \n \nBreaking Open Series\nBased on the beloved hymn “People\, Look East\,” this Advent series invites us into a season of waiting that is also a season of preparing\, softening\, and opening. We will notice what is breaking open in us and around us — moments when cracks let in light\, when hearts stretch to hold both sorrow and hope\, and when breaking open becomes a path to transformation. \nOur journey begins with an exploration of preparation that looks beyond the visible tasks of the season to the deeper work of readying our hearts and spirits for what lies ahead. We will plant seeds of possibility in seemingly barren ground\, trusting in growth we cannot yet see. We will join in the joy and wonder of our community’s Christmas pageant\, welcoming the light that children so naturally carry. And we will create space for the tender truths of this season\, acknowledging that sorrow and struggle are also part of our Advent journey\, and that even in those places\, healing and hope can take root.
