Sorting it out: Chart and Compass -
Capital Campaign - Annual Canvass
Confused about some of the terms we hear around church? I know I was. Here’s a little help:
Chart and Compass 2010 is the implementation plan, formulated from in-depth congregational input, that will bring into being a vision for First Church through 2010. As its name implies, Chart and Compass is a guide outlining a series of steps to help us effect our vision in a careful and intentional way. (You can read the plan here)
The Capital Campaign enlists the financial support of church members and friends to fund various components of the Chart and Compass 2010. Initiatives drawn from the strategic plan require new staff positions, architectural studies and plans, and construction; all are supported by the Capital Campaign. Members of our church family were asked earlier this year to pledge generously to a special fund—that pledge is payable over three years. The Capital Campaign is “money to grow on.”
The Annual Canvass, a fundraising campaign every fall, supports and sustains the mission of the church on a yearly basis. We are asked to make an annual pledge to the church’s regular operating budget. The Annual Canvass supports Religious Education for children, youth and adults; weekly and special Worship, the Music program, maintenance of our buildings and grounds, denominational dues, and staffing to conduct the church’s business. The Annual Canvass provides “money to go on” to keep our church and its programs running.
In a nutshell, Chart and Compass 2010 is our guide, the Capital Campaign is "money to grow on," and the Annual Canvass is "money to go on"!
