Public Witness for Congregations: Inspired Faith, Effective Action
Roger Grape
According to the speakers, we need to look at our history and be able to use our principles, purposes and religious language, not just talking about “what’s right” or talk about the Constitution. Incorporate music (“Standing on the Side of Love,” “Blue Boat Home,” etc.) into social action. What is your congregation “called” to do in your community? We need to be able to go to places where we might feel uncomfortable.
What is “public witness” anyway?
- Public witness is the term we use for communicating our religious values to the wider world.
- Public witness is public relations within a religious context.
- Media advocacy is one of the ways we pay witness to our values.
