Civil Liberties and the War on Terror
Ann Meyer
U.S. Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Heidi Boghosian, Esq., Executive Director of the National Lawyers Guild (a liberal activist association), gave multiple examples of the loss of our civil liberties since September 11, 2001. They spoke of police over-reaching boundaries; fear mongering by boarding subways with rifles and machine guns; bystanders arrested in peaceful and lawful protests, tasers used on lawful protesters; animal and eco activists on the FBI's terrorist list, etc.
They believe that the choice of security or freedom is "a lie.” There is a middle ground that is not sought by many in power. Both women state the answer is strong political activism.
